WOMEN'S BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
                        MID-YEAR TREASURER'S REPORT
                   JUNE 1, 1997 THROUGH JANUARY 31, 1998

                                  REVENUE

 Dues
The Budget Comparison (see attached) indicates that we are at 87.4% of budget
for renewal dues with $85,2361.08 in revenue and 74.0% for new member dues with
revenue totaling $25,913.49. Those dollar amounts incorporate deferred revenue figures
which are members who joined last fiscal year but whose membership carries over into
the next fiscal year. There is $33,436.08 of deferred revenue for renewal dues and
$14,893.49 in deferred revenue for new member dues (see attached transaction detail).
Actual revenue figures for this period are $51,795 in renewals and only $11,020 in new
member dues. The overall budget goals approved in May 1997, projected 1,350
 renewals and 450 new members.
Obviously, we are very low in this area. Except for Tip the Scales, there have
been limited membership initiatives this year. With the Spring showcase programs and
a recent mailing to new D.C. Bar admittees, hopefully these numbers will improve.
Since the WBA is over 75% dues-dependent, it is crucial that we undertake programs to
boost membership.

Committees and Forums
Committee and Forum revenue is also down. In May 1997, the approved budget
projected a net revenue from committees and forums (exclusive of showcase events) of
$10,000. As of the December 31, 1997 report, we show a net revenue of $3,461.75.
There has been some difficulty in reconciling these programs but a recent round
of phone calls to all co-chairs with program reconciliations outstanding, has allowed us
to reconcile all programs to the figures in QuickBooks. There are a few exceptions of
programs still outstanding that are noted in the attachment entitled Committee and
Forum Status Report. These programs include Doing Well By Doing Good, for
which we are still waiting for the catering figures and the Senior Women in
Government Reception for which we are still awaiting a $1,000 donation from
Proskauer and a response for an additional $1,000 contribution from Proskauer as well.
As stated above, all programs have been reconciled against QuickBooks and both
revenue and expenses are now properly allocated to the correct committee or forum.

Publications
The attached Budget Comparison indicates that we are on target, and are actually
exceeding, budget projections. The production and mailing of the Directory will incur
a deficit of $1027.63. We initially budgeted for a $1000 deficit so our projections were
not far off.
