          4mY sister's place

services to empower survivors of domestic violence

    April 20, 2007

    Ms. Ellen Jakovic, President
    Women's Bar Association Foundation
    1750 K Street, NW
    Suite 350
    Washington, DC, 20006

    Dear Ms. Jakovic,

On behalf of the board, staff, and residents of My Sister's Place, Inc. (MSP), I want to thank you
for the Women's Bar Association Foundation's support in past years. The foundation generously
supported the critical work of MSP in the mid-'90s, and we would like to cultivate this valuable
    ongoing relationship.

My Sister's Place, Inc. (MSP) is pleased to be afforded an opportunity to submit a letter of
interest to the Women's Bar Association Foundation. We are seeking funding to continue to
provide needed programs and services for indigent, homeless, battered women and their children
in the District of Columbia. MSP requests the opportunity to submit a full proposal to the
    foundation for $5,000.

MSP's programs include emergency shelter, transitional housing and supportive services to
develop life skills that foster long-term independence. Our model of intensive case management
includes connecting survivors of domestic violence with legal assislance in order to obtain
protective orders, protect custody rights, and access victim assistance funds. MSP maintains
strategic relationships with leading community organizations to provide these resources to our
clients, including Women Empowered Against Violence (WEAVE) and Ayuda.

In September of 2006, MSP increased its reach significantly with the launch of our new
Emergency Services Center, a non-residential counseling center. The ESC enables MSP to bring
comprehensive supportive services to women throughout the area who are rebuilding
independent lives after moving on from emergency housing.

Just as our clients turn to MSP for support in rebuilding their lives, MSP relies on supporters like
the Women's Bar Association Foundation. Thank you for your consideration, and should you
require additional information, please feel free to contact me at 202-529-3328 or via email at

    Nichelle A. Mitchem, JD
