The meeting was convened at 6:45 p.m. by President Jennifer
Porter. Present at the meeting were WBAF members Jennifer
Porter, Deborah Israel, Grace Park, Lucy Thomson, Gwen Simmons,
Susah Frank, Nancy Newkirk, Marilyn Moore, N.Denise Wilson
Taylor, Kathryn Ellis, and WBA Liaison, Suzanne LaCampagne.


Introductions and Preliminary Matters

President Jennifer Porter welcomed Marilyn Moore to the Board and
introduced Suzanne LaCampagne. She also reported on a recent
meeting of the WBA Board of Directors and clarified for the WBAF
Board her comments at the meeting concerning the make-up of the
WBAF Board and the relationship between the WBA and the WBAF.


Financial Report

The Board reviewed and discussed the annual financial statement.
Marilyn Moore agreed to prepare the 1993 tax return. MSA that
Treasurer, Gwen Simmons, would investigate having the 1993 audit
prepared by Judi Herishen.

The minutes of the last meeting were MSA.


Status of Board Retreat

A meeting to finalize the Board retreat will be held on September
17, 1993 at 5:00 p.m. with Jane Pierson. The retreat is
scheduled for October 15-16 (October 15 - 5:00-9:00 p.m.; October
16 - 8:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m.). Retreat participants from the WBA and
past W!AF members invited to attend include:

   Lalla Shishkevish              Maureen Kerrigan
     Ellen Berich                 Shemin Proctor
     Jane Belford                 Dawn White
     Jenny Levy                   Katherine Mazzaferri
     Jean Bower

Members were asked to submit issues for the retreat to Jennifer
by Friday morning. In particular, the Board discussed the need
to research other women lawyers' organizations and consider our
mission vis-a-vis the mission of these other groups: The National
Women's Law Center, the Women's Legal Defense Fund, voluntary bar
associations (e.g., GWAC, Hispanic Bar Assn.); and the D.C. Bar
Public Services Activities Corporation.
