                       WOMEN'S BAR ASSOCIATION
                     OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

                     BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
                              September 16, 2003

                                  MINUTES

The meeting was called to order by the President at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the
offices of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot. In attendance were
Paulette Chapman (President), Lisa Dunner (Treasurer), Barbara Burr (Treasurer-Elect),
Regina DeMeo (Secretary), Jennifer Duane (Board Member), Evangeline Paschal (Board
Member), Ellen Jakovic (Past-President), Heidi Sorenson (WBAF Board Member) and
Martha Lockwood (Executive Director).

I. Fall Kickoff:

   A. Important Details: Paulette reported that thus far the WBA has received 312
rsvps for the event this Thursday. Honored guests will have yellow badges. Board
members should be meters and greeters of the honored guests and other attendees.
An email will be sent to the co-chairs and Board members asking that they arrive
between 5 and 5:30p.m., so there is ample time before the guests start arriving at
6p.m. We have 12 sponsors at $500. Angela Fisher-Jaffe was kind enough to make
the calls and secure these sponsors. The WBAF gave us a grant of $5,000. Jenner &
Block were able to obtain the venue for us. Reliable Source is providing the posters,
etc. The timeline for speeches will be between 6:45 and 7:15p.m. Membership
brochures will be available. Todd Allen Printers has produced 2,500.

   B. Membership Sale: Discounts will be offered on membership prices that night.
The Board unanimously voted to be consistent with last year's discounts, which were
also offered at the Young Lawyer's event in July 2003.

   C. Contingency Plan: Due to the possible complications with transportation, etc. as a
result of Hurricane Isabel, the Board discussed a contingency plan. It was agreed that
the deadline for canceling will be Thursday, September 17 at noon. If we cancel
Thursday, we may lose part of our deposit with Ridgewell's Catering for food that is
lost. We believe the most we would lose is approximately $2,500. Emails will be
sent to all members, including co-chairs and Board members, as well as everyone
who has sent an rsvp. In addition, Paulette will try to personally call all the honorees.
In the event of a cancellation, the new date for the event will have to be the week of
October 14 , given Judith Richard Hope's availability and our desire to avoid a
conflict with the events for the National Association of Women Judges.
