Vulnerability and the
Human Condition Initiative

Spring Semester 2020

Greetings and Happy New Year
Condition Initiative!

from the Vulnerability and the Human

The second half of 2019 brought a vibrant group of scholars to VHC.
Some were visiting for the first time, and others were returning after
years of productive connection with the initiative. We welcomed scholars
from China, South Korea, Romania, Uganda, the Netherlands, and the
United Kingdom. With the help of our partners in Sweden, Australia, and
the United Kingdom, we held VHC workshops in Lund and in Nottingham.
You will find more information below.

We approach the New Year with celebratory intent, as we prepare to
commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Professor Martha
Albertson Fineman's book The Neutered Mother, the Sexual Family, and
other Twentieth Century Tragedies in early March, as well as another
workshop on Corporate Subjectivity in April. In a time of global
divisiveness, the VHC is determined to further the dialogue of
commonality inherent to the vulnerability framework.

Included in this issue are reports on our Fall workshops, an
announcement of our Spring workshop schedule, information on our
2019 visiting scholars, and general news from VHC. You will also find
relevant information on publications and courses taught by FLT/VHC
members and upcoming projects.
