      MERCHANT SHIP SALES ACT OF 1946
           P.L. 321 -- 79th Cong.
           Ch.   82 -- 2d Sess.


      During the second session of the 78th
Congress, legislation pertaining to the
sale of surplus war-built vessels was in-
troduced in both the House and the Senate.
None of the bills, however, was reported
out of committee.  The House Committe  on,
Merchant Marine and Fisheries heldji. R4486,
but no further progress was made toward enact-
ing a public law.

      In the 79th Congress, billk were again
introduced in the Senate and house.  This
legislation culminated in the enactment of
Public Law No. 321, the Merchant Ship Sales
Act of 1946.
