Report. from the Chair
1. Newsletter
Publication of th'e PLL/!SI S news.letter was temporarily suspended this year.
As the newsletter required a separate subscription fee over and above the SI S
dues, we found that our publication was unfortunately not reaching the majority of
our members, and the PLL Board felt th~is situation was unsatisfactory. The
PLL/S1IS Board drafted a resolution which was submitted to the AALL Board
requesting that our newsletter be included as an insert in the AALL Newsletter. It
was thought that we would thereby be able to: 1) eliminate the separate
subscription fee; 2) reach all private law librarians - even those who were not
members of the PLL, or those who chose not to subscribe to the PLL newsletter: . )
reach beyond the privates as a public relations tool and let the rest of AALL kn:ow
what we're up to.
Our resolution was placed on the AALL agenda and subsequently referred to
the AALL Committee on Organizational Structure. As of this date, it appears that
the Committee on Organizational Structure is likely to recommend that the SI S
newsletters be duplicated, mailed and funded in AALL headquarters in Chicago.
We hope to get cur newsletter back on track next year. If you would like to? be on
next year's newAsletter committee, please let. me know. We'll be looking forr some
eager contributors.
