Happy New Year! This first
issue of the AVMNews for the
current year provides me an
opportunity to review some of
the section activities.

In October Carol Meyer attend-
ed a special training session
in Chicago for SIS officers
regarding AALL organization,
functions and SIS relations.
She will report on the meeting
in the next issue of AVMNews.

A number of SIS members met
during the Midwest Regional
Meeting in Chicago. Some bus-
iness was conducted regarding
the AVMNews and the SIS meet-
ings for the 1990 convention
in Minneapolis.

Our SIS is planning on cospon-
soring a program at the 1990
program. Details will follow
in Vol. 10, No. 2.

An additional program is being
presented in conjunction with
the Automation and Scientific
Development SIS during a joint
SIS business meeting scheduled

for Sunday, June 17, 1990 from
1:45 - 3:15 p.m. Mary Jensen
has organized a panel of ex-
perts to discuss copyright
issues concerning mixed me-
dia. This discussion is
aimed toward librarians and
other information specialists
who deal with videocassettes,
computer disks, interactive
video discs and combinations
of these materials with more
traditional print materials.
Panelists will represent li-
brary science education, law
firm administration and legal
publishers. Specifically,
they represent an interactive
video disc vendor, a producer
of combination software and
video training packages, and a
librarian who specializes in
media copyright issues.

This is a timely topic and I
invite you to participate. I
believe that this is the first
time two SIS's have collabora-
ted to share their meeting
times and present a substan-
tive program. Our business
meeting will be from 3:30 -
4:00 p.m. immediately follow-
ing the panel presentation.

Our SIS is preparing a media
guide to the exhibit area for
the convention. This guide is
intended to describe media e-
quipment and products which
vendors will have available in
their exhibit booths during
the Minneapolis meeting. Any
of you who would be interested
