SIS NEWSLETTER VOLUME 6 NUMBER 1

NEW YORK WRAP-UP...
by Atetha Honsowtiz
  New York was exciting, stimulating,
fascinating, stupendous, incredible,
awesome and exhausting! (of course the
convention .itself was pretty great too!)
It is always good tocome together with
old friends, meet new friends, and ex-
change ideas. The informal -get-togethers
provided a wide exhange of ideas and in-
formation. With over 2,000 law librar-
ians in New York (the largest convention
ever), ample opportunity was provided
for both structured and -unstructured ed-
ucational opportunities.
    e Micrographics/AV SIS, as usual,
p ented an excellent program, Micro-
graphic and Audiovisual Equipment Op-
erator's Manual. This program was very
helpful in that it offered practical
advice on AV and -micrographic equip-
ment selection criteria and practical
considerations for In-House preventive
maintence of equipment. If you -missed
this excellent program (or were -unable
to attend AALL), Mobiltape Company has
audio cassettes of all the meetings of
the 78th Annual Meeting of AALL avail-
able for purchase. If interested, con-
tact Mobiltape Company Inc., 1741
Gardena Ave., Glendale, CA 91204, (818)
244-8122.
  At the Micrographics SIS meeting
alot of excitment was generated with
the exchange of ideas and possible pro-
jects to be developed in the coming year
[more information on this elsewhere in
the newsletter]. All in all it looks
like 1985/86 will be a productive year
for the Micrographics/AV SIS. If you
have any ideas or want to HELP in any
w please contact any of the following
p.uple: Win-Shin Chaing, Chair; Mike
Klepper,Vice Chair/Chair Elect and Pro-
gram Chair  for the 1986 AALL  program);

FINUTES - MICROGRAPHICS AND AUDIO-
VISUAL SPECIAL INTEREST SECTION ANNUAL
BUSINESS MEETING - JULY 8, 1985,
NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Namoi Ronen called the meeting to order at
7:40. She expressed thanks to Aletha Honsowit;
and Lisa Eusani for their work on the NewslettE
to Win-Shin Chiang for her work on the program,
to this years Nominating Committee (R. Petersor
N. Cascio, G. Bravy), to all of the candidates
for office (M. Klepper, S. Roach, L. Eusani,
A. Honsowitz), to survey participants and News-
letter contributors, and to the outgoing Sec-
retary-Treasurer (G. Bravy). She also expressE
her wishes for an active and flourishing SIS.
The Secretary-Treasurer reported that we had
191 members as of May 31, 1985, and a balance
of 915.90 in the treasurey as of 6/1/85.
Namoi Ronen noted that we have a substantial
balance in the section's account and suggested
that the SIS might wish to use part of these
funds on a publication project of some kind.
An extensive discussion commenced concerning
this suggestion. Projects mentioned as possib-
ilities included a directory of audio-visual/
microforms in libraries, a job description
list, a monographic publication of AV/micro-
graphics operations, or a publication dealing
with the uses of AVImicro in academic and firm
law libraries. Additional comments were made
regarding distribution of the publication (i.e.
through the Newsletter or as a separate pub-
lication, possibly for sale to non-SIS members)
and concern that the publication be of high.
quality so as to reflect well on the SIS.
