 LETTER FROM THE CHAIR:

Our infant SIS is beginning to grow quickly as evidenced by increased
participation in both the business meeting at the New Orleans AALL
meeting and the three programs that LISP sponsored or co-sponsored.
These excellent programs are desribed in the minutes of the business
meeting, printed elswhere in this newsletter issue. Special thanks to
Sharon Blackburn for all of her creative efforts and hard work as 1991
chair of the program committee,

The 1992 program committee, co-chaired by Betty Karweick and Eileen
Cohen, is already busy planning for next year's programs. The
committee has submitted several intriguing proposals for the AALL
Program Committee's consideration, including one addressing television's
impact on the public's view of law. Other proposals involve two
collaborative efforts with the Contemporary Social Problems SIS, one
concerning governmental use of E-mail with the-Government Documents
SIS, and one jointly proposed by LISP and Reader Services SIS.

For the first time, a LISP survey was conducted this spring and the
results were gratifying. Many members suggested interesting program
ideas along with volunteering for various projects and committees.
Thanks to all of you who responded to the survey. If your program
idea was not used this time around, please don't get discouraged. SIS
program submissions are made based on several criteria, including
what the theme of a particular AALL meeting is, whether similar
programs have recently been presented, and what other SIS program
proposals lend themselves to co-sponsorship.

In the near future, a number of you will be contacted about serving
on various committees and projects. Active participation will ensure
continued LISP growth. One of the projects that I will be working
on is a revision of LISP's long range goals and objectives in light
of the 1991 White House Conference. I welcome any suggestions or
observations.

As many of you know, LISP has a clearinghouse that receives and loans
