LEGAL INFORMATION SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC SPECIAL INTEREST SECTION

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR:



     Th.is is the third year for this SIS. Under the leadcership
     of both Beth Schneider and Bobbi Studwell the SIS has
     progressed both in direction and membership. Part of this
     progjress is due to the members willingness to volunteer to
     do projects. Hopefully this year we will cont inuie on the
     path in building this SIS.

     One member who has done a great deal of work already this
     year is Sharon Blackburn. Last year she voluntered to work
     on program ideas for New Orleans. During the meeting at
     Minneapolis she presented her ideas and took other
     suggest ions from those that were present. From this list
     she submitted five program ideas:

     1  Hey Buddy Do You Want to Buy a Bridge? Consumer and
     Family Law for the Masses.

     2. The Bridge to Us: Library Legal Dilemmas and the Law
     Librarian.

        A Bridge Without Bars: Legal Information and the
     FPr isoner.

     4. Pro-Bono Librarianship: Bridging the Information' Gap for
     the Pro-Bono Attorney.

     5. La PLente, le pont, die Brucke, or A Bridge in Any
     Language is Still -a Bridge: Legal Information to the Non--
     English Speaker.

     The last three program ideas were accepted. Legal
     Information and the Prisoner will be presented on Monday
     8:30-10:00; Pro--Bono Librarianship will be presented on
     Tuesday *8:30-10:00; and Legal Information to the Non--English
     Speaker will be presented on Wednesday 1:30-3:30.
