In faith and hope we revive with this issue THE LEGIST 2d, a news-
sheet which had an honorable past and will, under the skillful pen' ,f
Edward Mr. Dooley Bander, serve once again in a not necessarily dull
manner the social and professional needs of our Association.
In many ways law librarians of this geographical area asked to re-
solve professional problems long before other sections of the country
have been confronted with them. Here in this international port city,
situated at the forefront of things, at least tentative answers and ad-
vice must be forthcoming. Certainly much can be gaiiaed from the collec-
tive mind of LLAGNY. You are invted to participate.
As we return heartened and refreshed from our summer holidays let
us find ourselves equal to our increasing responsibilities.

in the field of criminal law. He

first suggested that in the light

of statistical reports of District

Attorneys, it would be difficult

for him to speak of his victories

in court. Nevertheless, even as

an Assistant District Attorney he

lost a case which he called The

Rape of the Bearded Lady.'

Mr. Steinberg was also critical

of newspaper reporting of crimin-

al cases, and felt that the Brit-

ish practice of controlling the

excesses of the press was worth

noting. Mr. Steinberg concluded

by saying that to qualify for the

criminal bar, a lawyer must achieve

that state where he is not motiva-

ted by wrath or revenge, that he

is not stimulated by guilt or inno-

cence, and is above petty, instinc-

tive motives. A display of Mr.
