PRESIDENT'S APPEAL

President Simak is currently accepting nominations for next year's Board
of Directors. Anyone who is interested in serving on the Board or who has
a name to suggest is urged to contact President Simak as soon as possible.
A slate must be drawn up and presented to LLAGNY members before the
annual dinner meeting in June when the elections will be held.

In addition, Law Lines needs active workers who can assume some of the
responsibilities for preparing this newsletter. If this publication is to con-
tinue it must have your help.

APRIL MEETING

The April meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 1972 at the Association
of the Bar of the City of New York. The meeting will commence at 6:30 P. M.
and collation available after 6 P. M.

The guest speaker will be Mrs. Edythe Rogers, Chairman, Model Prison
Library Commission.

A number of important business matters will be discussed that evening. A
union list of foreign holdings and a workshop for library clerks in the methods
and materials of legal research are being seriously considered as possible
projects for the coming year. A decision will have to be made at this meet-
ing. If you wish to see either of these projects realized and will not be at
this meeting please contact Dave Thurman and let him know of your interest
and of your support.

PAST PROGRAMS

The February LLAGNY meeting was held at the world-famous Lambs Club
on February 24, 1972. No business was discussed.

The evening's program, sponsored by the Labor Legislative Committee of
the New York Legislative Service and open to the public, was particularly
informative. The Honorable Jeremiah B. Bloom, Senator from the 17th
District, took his audience behind the scenes in discussing how things are
accomplished in the Legislature and the dedication of most lawmakers in
serving their constituents. Dr. George H. Hallett, Jr., the legislative
representative of the Citizens Union, revealed how the lobbyist operates to
insure the passage of favored legislation.
