LAW LINES

                                                                    Fall 2003

                                President's Message
We all had a great time at the Fall Soiree held at the Reebok Sports Center on October 21. The turnout was
excellent and we enjoyed the beautiful setting.
A special thank you to Lexis-Nexis for their contribution and generous support of LLAGNY events. Our Special
Events Committee, Jill Gray and Judy Dhanraj, work hard to make sure our party sites are special and we appreciate
 their efforts.
The Soiree marked the official kick-off of LLAGNY's 65th Anniversary celebration! Librarianship has changed so
much over the years. We want to make sure that we honor our profession and so I have appointed a special
committee to work on special events that will commemorate the occasion.
Janice Henderson, committee chair, spoke at the Soiree and let everyone know about some of the special
projects the committee is planning. Some events include:
        * Atalent show at LLAGNY's holiday party. Our holiday party will be held on January 8, 2004 at the China
Club! Mark your calendars and please contact Janice if you are interested in signing up for the show.
        * We have invited the President or President/Elect of AALLto be our guest at our June dinner. We will let
you know as soon as our plans are confirmed.
        * We are interested in promoting Law Librarianship as a profession.
We plan on visiting library schools and participating in career days. We also hope to publish articles that
articulate the value of our professionals to the organizations that we serve. We will target publications/
meetings that are geared to our bosses-law firm administrators, lawyers, law school deans, and
          executive directors.
        * A special educational program that includes a timeline and the history of LLAGNY is being planned. We
want to make sure librarians new to the profession learn about our organization's founders and members.
Jeff Cohan and Kathleen McLeod, who co-chair the Education Committee, have been busy organizing our series.
On November 12, 2003 we will present:Securities Research Strategies. We kick off 2004 with: Law Librarians
Transitions and Change. If you are interested in attending these programs please check our website for additional
 details.
We have dedicated new committee chairs that are busy working on special projects that we will report on
throughout the year. Thank you to our outgoing board members Christina Rattiner, Ben Toby, Heidi-Marie Bliss, Jim
Murphy, Mary Cosgrove and Cheryl Stephen. We appreciate your effort and hard work on behalf of LLAGNY.
Welcome to our new Board members: David Merkin, Patricia Kasting, John Lai, Karen Heusel, Andrew Tschinkel,
and Kimberley Council. We're off to a good start and we are looking forward to working hard and making a
contribution to LLAGNY's membership. If you are interested in volunteering for LLAGNY please contact me or our
Volunteer Committee co-chairs John Campbell and Emily Moog. We can use your help and we will find an
opportunity for you. Volunteering for LLAGNY takes time but the rewards are great. The people that make up this
organization are wonderful and together we can make a difference!
