Everyone loves a good party, and nowhere was this more true than the Manhattan Chili Company on October
23rd! Thanks to the hard work of our Special Events Committee, Jill Gray and Tom Tatarian, the evening was a
memorable success! We also want to thank Lexis Nexis for their continued and appreciated sponsorship of this
event. Both the drinks and conversation flowed freely, and the Mexican treats were happily sampled. Members
have told me repeatedly that they love the food, drink and decor of the Manhattan Chili Company. I don't know
whether it's the Broadway ambiance, or the proximity of David Letterman (or the ghost of Ed Sullivan?). In any
case, we had a crowd of over 180, and had all who RSVP'd made it that night we would have been 250 strong!
Enthusiasm reigns supreme for our Board and Committee Chairs in light of all the projects currently underway!
The Board is devoting its best efforts to the many tasks at hand which range from LLAGNY's new logo to developing
a state of the art website. Let me tell you what we're up to. The news from the Advertising Committee couldn't
be better. Sabrina Busgith made it possible for our Membership Directory to have ads once again, effectively
bringing us out of the red! Paulette Toth (President 1992 - 1993) and Nanette LoDolce, Co-Chairs to our
Membership Committee, worked hand in hand with Sabrina to connect the dots and they've done a yeoman job
of getting our directory out. One of Paulette's and Nanette's projects is to revise our Membership Renewal form
for the purpose of surveying how the Board may better serve its members. Our Pro Bono Committee, headed by
David Merkin and Eric Kaufman, is expanding its relationship to programs with Bar Associations and nonprofit
organizations. Lastly, but certainly not least, their most important project currently is the organizing of a long- and
well-deserved award to Sylvia Siegel for all her years of service to the Committee.
Jeff Cohan and Kathleen McLeod, who co-chair the Education Committee, hit the ground running this Fall
Season with an excellent three-hour Basic Legal Research Course presented by Ralph Monaco, NYCLA's Director
of Library Services. This helpful course was presented at the New York County Lawyers' Association and we at
LLAGNY deeply appreciate NYCLA's deep discount to LLAGNY members. Jeff and Kate have other programs up
their sleeves relating to patents, and also relating to licensing and negotiating electronic agreements. The
Technology Committee, which features Co-Chairs Sarah Kagen and Sharon Lai, is concentrating its superior efforts
with a tightly-knit group of resident techies to give our LLAGNY web page a state of the art look. And, speaking
of the state of the art, our Law Lines Committee in the persons of Co-Chairs Christopher Lauzau and Jorene Robbie
have outdone themselves with this issue, an aspect of our profession which is foremost today. That is the subject
of Marketing the Library. As another last but certainly not least nod, I would like to thank Jonathan Saxon for
his continued valuable assistance and mentorship to the Technology Committee Chairs.
As I promised, I have only mentioned a few committees. Please take some time to visit our LLAGNY website
for our recent news and programs, as well as other aspects of interest to our membership. Once again, LLAGNY
is the product of our volunteered work. Feel free to contact our Volunteers Committee, Emily Moog and John
Campbell; they eagerly await your call!
