          PRESIDENT'S LETTER
By: Geoffrey C. Trigger, Tenzer, Greenblatt, Fallon
    & Kaplan
At the beginning of the last elective year, the Officers
and Board of Directors aimed at increasing the
participation of each member and providing the best
possible programs during the coming year. Our goal
 this year remains the same!
At our first Executive Board meeting of 1993/1994
Paulette Toth, our Past President, outlined the goals,
strategic plan, and accomplishments of her
presidency: board members were freed from the
responsibility of chairing committees, allowing the
Board to become more active and committees more
autonomous, reducing the perception that close-knit

groups manage the Association. Instead, Board
members became liaisons between committees and
Board, bettering communication between the Board
and each committee.
A Leadership Seminar was presented by a profes-
sional management consultant to the Officers, Board,
committee chairs and interested LLAGNY members.
This seminar led to the creation of a new mission
statement, and to a greater awareness of the limita-
tions and potential of our Association. Several weeks
later, in an open meeting, LLAGNY members voiced
their opinions about numerous topics. A survey
published in Law Lines and distributed at subsequent
meetings provided another source of feedback to the
Board concerning the direction of LLAGNY. The
Board reviewed the various suggestions and incorpor-
ated them into programs or policy whenever possible.
Meanwhile, the Board supported the Technology
Committee in its search for a vendor to supply an
online database capable of carrying e-mail and
storing as much of LLAGNY's data as possible. This
technology will enable LLAGNY members to
communicate with each other, and eventually, through
the Internet.
Vendors generously contributed to the funding of
traditional events, such as the Holiday and June
dinners, the Intern Luncheon, Friday afternoon teas,
Education Meetings and Scholarship and Grant
Awards. To represent law librarians in the
marketplace, the LLAGNY leadership held meetings
with vendor executives to increase the vendors'
awareness of LLAGNY's programs.
The challenge for this year's Board is to continue its
leadership role. We began our second meeting by
receiving a report from Terri Wrenn, Head Librarian
with Morrison & Foerster, on the proposed Vendor
Relations Committee. The need for this committee,
which will develop a consistent relationship between
the law library community and its vendors, was
recognized by the Board and unanimously supported.
During the next two months, this committee will notify
the membership of its plans through articles in Law
Lines.
