TIlB EDITOR'S ORSETING.
The chief duties of the Law LIBRARIA
are to keep a record of all law books as they
are published, to tell where they may be
found and what may be found in them, what
period is eovered by them, as in the case of
reports and digest, and what subjects are
treated by the anthors, as in the case of
treiss; to talk in either a matter-of-faot
or goesipy way of the books which have
hee, ought to be, or ought not to have
been published; to tell his patrons what he
knows or thinks of the now candidates for
p.oe ional favor, and what new enterprises
or new editions awe announced or contem-
plated by anthors and publishers.
He does not contract to resl all the books
which may be published, and he will some-
times be ready to admit that his opinions are
based on hearsay evidence, or to express the
judgment of others who have tested the
books by practical use.
His reports will be made and delivered by
prepaid post quarterly, on the first days of
November, February, May, and August, to
thoese who wish to reeive them.
He is a public officer, the servant of the
legal profession, and entitled to no fee from
any patron; his information, gained by con.
stant application and years of training, is
fre to all who ask for it; and now, to save

time, breath, and muscle. he dictates to a
stenographer and pays the printer himself.
To all who desire his information he re-
spon s, Such as I have give I unto thee.
