Annotated Recruitment Checklist

                     Compiled by

                     Kate Wallach

                       for the

            A.A.L.L. Recruitment Committee

                        June 1962

This Checklist has been prepared by the A.A.L.L.
Committee on Recruitment, for the information of inter-
ested law librarians who have the opportunity to share
their interest with prospective law librarianship recruits.
It may be used to provide or organize information for re-
cruitment speeches or for correspondence or conversation
with inquiring prospects.

The personal approach is more effective than
the printed brochure. Our listeners will be impressed
more when told about our own experiences as law librar-
ians and what law librarianship means to us. Such a
statement may be made in an area where there are many
job opportunities of different kinds or in an area where
there are few, but A.A.L.L. members have a duty to re-
cruit for the whole profession, not merely for the local
and immediate opening.

The facts collected here are as inclusive as
possible. They may change quickly and local experience
may not be adequately reflected. Alternate approaches
are offered in some areas; in almost all areas it will
be necessary to check the facts for accuracy or for their
timeliness and to make selections or additions to meet
the interests of those whom you will recruit.

             A. INTRODUCTORY STATEMENTS.

1. Bill Stern in L.L.J. 54:139 (1962): Law li-
brarians are the keepers of the law by remote
control. They furnish the tools to those who act
and sometimes become the teachers of the latter.
