Newsletter of the State, Court & County SIS of the American Assodiation of Law Libraries

Chair's Column
It's all coming together
Regina Smith, SCCLL Chair
Jenkins Law Library, Philadelphia, PA
The first day of the real
millenium got off to a great start
for me, and hopefully for all of you.
No new snow or storm was pre-
dicted, no company was expected,
nothing but the promise df a day to myself. I made one of my
special oyster pan roasts for us for brunch, my husband headed
to the den for football games, and I set out a jigsaw puzzle on
the kitchen table. The time had come to calm my mind. I do
some of my best thinking when I set time aside to chill out,
which one can easily do with a jigsaw puzzle. This time was
productive for me.
Among other things, I began reflecting on where our SIS is at
the mid-year point, and was pleased with what I saw. Our com-
mittees have been working harder than ever and some things
have already come together. I will share them with you briefly
and you can read more about their activities in this issue of
the newsletter. They are in the order they popped into my
mind and not ranked in order of importance, as all of them
are of equal importance.
* The Strategic Planning Committee is on schedule and will
have a plan for the membership to approve at the AALL
Annual Meeting in Minneapolis in July.
* Our newsletter editor, Lisa Mecklenberg Jackson, put out
another outstanding issue that was chock full of informa-
tion. I am sure that you will agree that our newsletter is
the best it has ever been. Remember to let Lisa know if
you want to receive it via the Web site or in print.
* Our Public Relations Committee has obtained a $25,000
grant from LEXIS/NEXIS to produce a publications series
to build relationships with SCCLL library customers. Ku-
dos to Betsy Vipperman and crew. This is wonderful news
for our section and for our customers.
*The Model County Code Committee has a first draft and
are hammering away on their report.
* WestGroup has again generously agreed to sponsor a

SCCLL reception on Tuesday
evening, July 17 during the AALL
Annual Meeting, so save that date.
The Nominating Committee has
come up with a great slate of can-
didates, see page 8. We will be do-
ing a mail ballot, and you should
receive it around April 1St and it
must be returned by April 20t. As
we learned in the past Presiden-
tial election, a few votes can
make a difference, so be sure to
vote. We promise not to use punch
cards, as we want no chad non-
sense!
Our program committee submit-
ted three successful programs, all
of which will be held on Sunday
at the Annual Meeting. The AALL
Education Committee is doing
something different this year and
they are having six programs in
the 10 am Sunday slot. This
means that our SIS will be spon-
soring two programs at the same
time. We will also have a 1 pm pro-
gram on Sunday. More about this
