16 SCCLL SIS Newsl. 1 (1989-1990)

PAGE

The State, Court, and County SIS of AALL contin-
ues to be very active with an enthusiastic membership.
Never was this more apparent than at the SCCLL meeting
in Reno with over 200 people in attendance. It is also very
gratifying that so many SCCLL members have volun-
teered to work on Committees and special projects over
the coming year. Such enthusiasm is especialiy welcome
at this time because so much needs to be done.
Over the past five years, AALL has engaged in a
variety of planning efforts to increase its effectiveness.
These efforts have resulted in committee reports whicr
may have a direct impact on all AALL SIS's including our
own. Some of these projects Including Studies by the
Financial Advisory Committee and the Special Commit-
tee on AALL Publications are continuing. Others, includ-
ing the Executive Board Long Range Planning Commit-
tee and the Special Committee on Information Policy
have already submitted recommendations which wll have
.an impact on AALL Special Interest Sections, including
SCCLL.

These activities and our own ongoing activities
have made it necessary for me to appoint several addi-
tional committees, all of which are listed elsewhere in this
newsletter.
Among the new committees are those related to
funding (reflecting the concern of many of us regarding
sources of funding of our SIS), Government Relations
(suggested by the Special Committee on Information
Policy), Service to the Disabled (resulting from the splen-
did reception of our program related to the disabled, held:
in Reno), and Relations with the Judiciary (to facilitate
contacts between law librarians and several organiza-
tions for Judges and Court Administrators).
I was surprised to find that SCCLL has no bro-
chures. Because of this, the exhibit space allocated to,
SCCLL ended up being used as work space by other SIS:
groups. Bethany Ochal has come to our rescue by
offering to prepare a brochure. If you would like to assist
her, please write to her at 2541 North Alona, Santa Ana,
CA 92703.
1 would like tothank everyone who helped distrib-
ute the SCCLL Appellate Court Standards and the SCCLL
County Law Library Standards to over 1,800 judges and
court administrators nationally, and all who have volun-
teered to work on SCCLL committees and other projects.
Thanks also to Linda Corbeli, Jeffrey Giles, William Hein
& Company, and everyone else responsible for the pro-
duction and distribution of this Newsletter.
We need your help to make the SCCLL Newslet-
ter a complete sucess. Please submit any articles, re-
views, letters to the editor, or similar items you may have
prepared to the editor, Jeffrey Giles, for publication. Since
an optical scanner is available we will attempt to include
the charts, graphs, and pictures you submit with your
material. This is subject to space limitations and clarity of
copy. All material should be submitted on unfolded 81/2
ax i paper.
