HALLOWEEN GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIR
At our SCCLL meeting in Chicago last July I promised to send
out a mini-newsletter in the fall in an effort to promote more
up-to-date communication among the membership. I must confess that
I've already laid in my trick-or-treat candy and pulled my witch's hat
out of the trunk before putting the newsletter to bed. But I am
delighted to report that the response to my call for committee
volunteers and conscripts has been enthusiastic and that we now have
a dozen committees planning projects for the year. If you are not
already on the committee roster and would like to be, please let me
know. All of the chairmen are eager to have ambitious workers.
The success of every one of our committees is dependent upon
the contributions and responses of the entire membership. The
Program and Publicity and Newsletter' committees are ready now to
receive your creative ideas. If you've always wondered how coTreagues
end up on programs or how they get their articles published, I can
tell you from personal experience that they reply to invitations like
this one. Both AALL and SCCLL are very open organizations which
appreciate and encourage both novices and veterans.
During the course of the year most of our other committees will
be collecting information from all of us to analyze and share for the
common good. In Chicago Joel Fishman's proposal that a committee be
appointed to investigate SCCLL's purpose and to establish long-range
goals was greeted with enthusiasm. Now we must provide the committee
with food for thought - complaints, practical suggestions and crazy
schemes - all the ingredients to make a rich stew.
Because we constitute the smallest of the three
major type-of-library groups within AALL, we sometimes
feel that the concerns of academic and private law /
libraries overshadow our interests. But our smaller I
size gives us the great advantage of knowing each other I
better and communicating more easily. We must make the 9
most of this opportunity to share our common problems
and successes and to use our influence for the better-
ment of our libraries and our profession. Let's make
it a banner year for SCCLL!
