From the Chair...
Melissa Serfass
Welcome to the first electronic-only issue of the RIPS Law
Librarian. The Executive Board has discussed and studied the
idea of moving to electronic-only for the last two years. We
voted in July to take the plunge and try it. We will send a
message to the RIPS list when a new issue is available. The
links to the newsletters will also be on the RIPS website at
http://www.aallnet.org/sis/ripsis/newsletters.html Printing
and mailing the newsletter has always been our biggest annual
expense. Moving to the electronic-only version will be a
substantial cost savings for us. What should we do with the
money we save? We might fund an annual travel grant or
program registration for a RIPS member. The AALL
Executive Board recently approved extending the Chapter VIP
program to the SISs for the San Antonio meeting, so we could
consider whether we want to sponsor a VIP in 2005. We
might decide to spend a bit more on public relations or
promotional materials. I would like to hear your ideas.
Wasn 't Seattle a great place to visit in July? Because I live
in one of those places where it is likely to be 100 degrees at
that time of year, I was particularly thrilled with the 72 degree
highs. Even though the Seattle conference seems ages ago, I
have some unfinished business to mention. First, I would like
to thank everyone who chaired committee meetings and
coordinated other RIPS activities. Thanks to those of you
have volunteered to continue chairing a committee, and to our
new chairs. Thanks to Past Chair D.R. Jones, who made my
transition to Chair easy. I was so encouraged at the business.
