Message From the Chair...
Kristin Gerdy
It seems hard to believe it has been almost four months since the Annual Meeting in Washington,
D.C. It was great to see those of you who were there and to feel your enthusiasm for RIPS and law
librarianship--I wish everyone could have been there! The few times that we can associate with one
another face to face are always rejuvenating.
Everywhere we turn these days it seems that we hear people talking about the new millennium and
an accompanying desire to refocus and redefine as we greet the Twenty-first Century. I am happy to
say that for RIPS this desire has been more than just talk. As you will see from articles below, RIPS
has been taking solid steps forward. Among these steps seven are particularly noteworthy.
First, under the dedicated direction of outgoing chair Celeste Feather, a RIPS strategic planning task
force met in Washington, D.C. to set goals for 1999-2001. The result of that effort is the new RIPS
Strategic Plan, which was unanimously approved by the RIPS Executive Board in September. This
plan is included in this newsletter. This document
will guide our activities and focus our energy during
the next two years.
