Letter From the Chair
Joan Shear
It seems like only yesterday that
we were having a ball in New
Orleans. Lots of interesting ideas
were exchanged and enthusiasm
reigned. Looking to the future,
Betsy has told me about lots of
exciting programs that the SIS has
proposed for next year in San
Francisco that sound really
terrific. But I can't wait that
long. There are too many talented
people with terrric ideas for us to
only share them once a year. My
goal for Reader Services SIS is to
make our activities have a real
impact for 12 months a year, not
just at annual meeting time.
The mechanism the SIS has for doing
that is its committees. Our by-
laws state that there shall be such
standing or special-committees as
the Executive Committee or the
membership of the section shall
create. We have a couple of
committees right now, and I think
we may want to consider some
additional ones. I'd like to take

some time now to tell you about the
committees that we have, or might
have, with the objective of getting
you to volunteer to be a part of
the action. All the committees
need more members and some could
use chairs. To make getting
involved even easier I'm including
an easy volunteer reply form that
you can use to get yourself
involved almost effortlessly.
Reader Services Committees:
.Program Committee - chaired by Vice
Chair/Chair Elect as per by-laws
This committee makes program
recommendations for the annual
meetings. Program deadlines have
passed already for 1992, but it's
not too early to start thinking
about program proposals for Boston
1993.
Nominations Committee - to be
appointed by the Executive
Committee as per by-laws.
This committee submits the names of
two candidates each for the two
offices we elect annually. Members
of this committee cannot be current
members of the Executive Board nor
can they nominate themselves. I
would love to have three real
volunteers. This is a great way to
be involved even if you don't
really have the time.
