LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
Pat Court
Enthusiasm for the work of
the Readers' Services SIS is
riding high as we leave the
national conference in Atlanta!
I am very pleased with the
lively interchange of ideas
that flowed at our business
meeting this summer. Of our
more than two hundred members,
about thirty loyal souls -- who
could break away from the
numerous other meetings --
gathered on Sunday afternoon
and energetically pushed into
new directions for the RS SIS.
My thanks to each of you who
willingly shared your visions
of what we can be and
volunteered to serve on action
committees to see that those
ideas are carried out. It is
exactly this kind of dedicated
work by.our members that makes
this Section useful and even
necessary to readers' services

librarians in all types of law
libraries.
A most significant step
taken at the summer meeting was
the creation of two committees
that focus on some of the
vital, ongoing concerns of our
members: the Committee on
Research Instruction and the
Committee on Statistics. These
committees were established as
ad hoc committees for the
purpose of initiating member
information exchange and as a
forum for action. Their status
as possible standing committees
will be considered next summer.
I. have heard from others of you
over the last several weeks
with additional ideas for
committees and activities, so
our bountiful enthusiasm
continues.
To get involved in the
work of either of these
committees, contact me or the
chair of the committees to
indicate your interest and we
will put you right to work --
planning an information
exchange meeting, writing a
newsletter article on an aspect
,f your library's readers'
services, etc.
The Committee on Research
Instruction is chaired by Betsy
McKenzie at St. Louis
