WE EXIST
The Reader Services Special Interest Section was approved as an American Association
of Law Libraries Special Interest Section at the Association's Executive Board
meeting in January. The group can now formally have a membership and elect officers
and conduct business. The new AALL dues statements will be mailed out soon with
a box to check to join the Reader Services SIS; be sure to check that box!
The Reader Services SIS meetings at the San Francisco convention will be very impor-
tant for accomplishing the basic organization and setting of goals. Following is
a chronology of Reader Services events at the convention with a brief description of
what should be happening at each one. The times given for these events may change;
be sure to check the final program you receive in San Francisco for times.
SUNDAY, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM BUSINESS MEETING
This will be the Reader Services SIS's first business meeting, and thus all inter-
ested members are urged to attend. The agenda will consist of the following:
1. Adoption of bylaws.
Nick Triffin will present the proposed bylaws for the Reader Services SIS,
and the SIS will discuss and amend them as necessary and adopt bylaws.
2. Election of officers.
All the Reader Services members should give careful consideration in the
next few weeks to who should be officers for the next year. Bobbie Snow
and Barbara Bonge, who served as temporary chairperson and secretary, respec-
tively) for the group during this year, will not be running for office, and
so they will serve as a nominating committee. On page 3 is a form to fill
out to nominate yourself or someone else for office. All submitted nomi-
nations will be placed on the ballot. Please send these forms to Bobbie
Snow before the meeting i possible. If you bring the form to the conven-
tion, leave it for Barbara Bonge at the Fairmont Hotel. Nominations will
also be accepted from the floor.
SUNDAY, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM READER SERVICES PROGRAM
Barbara Pawlowski, Georgetown University Law Library, will discuss staff relations,
based on a program that the Georgetown Library has successfully implemented.
Ms. Pawlowski was chairperson of the committee responsible for this program at
Georgetown.
