Summary of Minutes, July 3, 1984
Business Meeting
The annual business meeting of the Automation and Scientific
Development SIS was held on July 3, 1984, at the Sheraton Harbor
Island Hotel during the AALL convention in San Diego. Byron Cooper,
secretary-treasurer, reported that the Section's balance as of June 24,
1983 was $2,109.44. After receipts, the Section's share of member's
dues, $857.50, and expenses for the 1983 convention, $230.00, and for
the publication of Automatome, the Section's newsletter, $179.66, the
balance on hand on June 29, 1984 was $2,557.33.
The following slate of officers was proposed for 1984-85: vice-
chair/chair elect, Patricia Rempel; secretary-treasurer, Byron Cooper.
The slate was elected by acclamation.
The future of Automatome was discussed. It was agreed that the
newsletter should be available on-line. After some discussion it was
agreed that paper copies should continue to be issued for Section mem-
bers. Ms. Rempel and Ms. Susan S. Roach were named co-editors for
1984-85.
Discussion arose of the Section's preparing an automation hand-
book. Mr. Duncan Webb, Ms. Rempel, and a designee to be chosen by
Mr. John Christinsen from his library's staff were appointed to work
on the project.
Possible roles of the Section were explored. These included the
needs of consultants, which the Section might provide, and the Section
taking a more active role in providing statistical information.
