MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
by Mila Rush
University of Minnesota Law Library

Am I losing my perspective of time?
While I had planned to devote my first
contribution to this column to plans for
1992/93 and while some of our SIS commit-
tees are still being formed, I already have had
to respond to a questionnaire (preliminary
though it is) as to which FCIL SIS subgroups
will be meeting (and what the respective
desired times are) during the 1993 Boston
meeting. I do realize we have to go on
planning for summer 1993. Although my time-
pressured report in San Francisco is the basis
for this, there have been developments since
the SIS Business Meeting, so please read on.
Our activities for the year can be divided
to meet these three goals:
BEST WISHES to:
Adolf Sprudzs, foreign and international
law librarian at the D'Angelo Law
Library, University of Chicago, who
retired on October 1, 1992.
Blanka Kudej, associate librarian for
special collections at the New York
University School of Law Library, who
retires on January 1, 1993.
Although they are leaving their
official positions, we look forward to
their continuing contributions to our
profession in the coming years.

Goal A: To work towards the FCIL SIS
objective, which is to serve as a forum for
the exchange of ideas and information on
foreign, comparative, and international law.
The following are efforts to achieve this:
1. Our Education/Program Committee met
the deadline of August 14 to submit
program and workshop proposals to the
AALL Education Committee for
presentation at the Annual Meeting in
Boston. That was preceded by some
groundwork starting with my stab at
explaining the program planning process
in the February 1992 issue of this
newsletter (reinforced by Lei Seeger's
items in the AALL Newsletter); some
formal and informal solicitation of, and
brainstorming for, ideas; a meeting of the
committee in San Francisco; and the
hectic days for chairs Lyonette Louis-
Jacques and Jolande Goldberg just before
the deadline. Now we await the verdict
of Lei and her committee.
