It was fun seeing so many of you in Inde)
Atlanta. I would like to express a SIS C
collective thank you to Jeanette Yackle and Org
Janet Zagori n, who coordi nated excellent Reno
programs. If you were unable to come to /11A
Atlanta I strongly encourage you to get the Offer
tape cassettes of the programs from AALL Place
Headquarters. Again, I want to thank all Apper
those who participated in the
post-meeting workshop on Latin
American Law and Law- Related Reference
Sources. The workshop materials are excellent, and
if you are interested in this area of the law but do
not wish to acquire a set, i suggest you avail
yourself through interlibrary loan, Minutes and
committee reports from our SIS business meeting
will hopefully appear in the next issue of this
newsletter.
Annual Meeting in Reno
The 1989 Meeting in Reno promises to be another
great experience for our SIS members. Our
proposed Workshop on Civil Law has been approved
for the Saturday prior to the Annual Meeting. Also
approved were our two proposed programs on
Japanese Law and International Commercial
Arbitration. I am hoping our SIS will sponsor a
number of working groups to meet on Sunday
around selected topics, and I look forward to seeing
many of you at our traditional luncheon on Monday.

Working Groups
In Atlanta the Latin American Law Librarians decided
to become a working group of the SIS. Any number
of working groups could be formed either on an ad hoc
or continuing basis. I am eager to receive ideas for
such working groups as they could focus around our
mutual needs and problems. Two that have al ready
been suggested are law collecti ng from Africa and
from the Soviet Union. I believe it was in Chicago
that Tom Reynolds took on all questions at a round
table setting; perhaps we need another conversational
experience with an expert or experts. (I do not see
this being formal, but rather a publicly announced
informal gathering.) Let me know your thoughts and
concerns, we need to get the planning done by
December 1st so that we can request rooms;
otherwise we can meet by the side of the hotel pool
