       NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Changing Times and New Directions in World Affairs

Welcome to the Spring 2017 issue of World Affairs Journal (WAJ)!
At a time when the United States and the world are confronting
changing times, new political, military, and diplomatic challenges, and
diverging responses to globalization, it is fitting that WAJ is likewise
steering in new directions. It is my great honor and pleasure to take
over the reins as Editor-in-Chief of WAJfrom its esteemed former Editor,
James Denton. For many years, Mr. Denton contributed so much to the
journal's identity as a source of political news, opinion, and thought-pro-
voking essays on international affairs and foreign policy. From 2010, he
established it as a cutting-edge leader of lively political conversation-
often heated, never lackluster, and consistently filled with different
perspectives that informed, questioned, and stimulated spirited debate.
As the journal has now become one of the newest members of the Pol-
icy Studies Organization's (PSO) 25 policy journals, these substantial
qualities will be preserved while WAJcontinues to branch into new areas
that are well suited to the niche it has already created for its readers.
The PSO and I are delighted that Mr. Denton will be staying on as the
journal's Emeritus Editor and that several long-time contributors to past
WAJissues will continue to submit their perspectives and research to the
journal.
In addition to preserving an important continuity with the past, the new
directions the journal is currently embarking on are exciting indeed. As
former Co-Editor-in-Chief of Politics & Policy (another journal in the PSO
stable) for the last twelve years, I have long been aware of the special bene-
fits that belonging to a network of related political publications can bring to
a journal. This is so in terms of the enhanced worldwide distribution facil-
ities, electronic manuscript management, and polished production proce-
dures provided by WAJs new and globally respected publisher, SAGE. More
importantly, belonging to such a large family of policy publications provides
a wealth of policy-specific perspectives, support, and interconnected con-
versations to authors, readers, and editors alike. The PSO publications have
grown over the last decade into one of the largest related journal networks
