                     Editorial Transition

The Volume 8 year of the Journal of School Violence will be my final year as
editor. Working with the Journal's associate editors and editorial board
members on this project has been one of the most interesting and stimulating
challenges of my professional career. I was gratified to learn in December 2007
from the American Psychological Association that PsycINFO has accepted
the Journal of School Violence for indexing into its database. This is a major
step forward for the journal.
It is time, however, for new leadership for the journal. The editor-elect
of the journal is Dr. Michael Furlong from the University of California -
Santa Barbara. He has edited two special issues of the Journal of School
Violence, one of which was published as a book. He is an outstanding
scholar and a leader on the international scene; he will provide excellent
direction for the journal. I am sure many of you are already well acquainted
with Mike and his work. You may find additional information about Mike
at the following Internet site: http://education.ucsb.edu/netshare/c4sbyd/

Mike, of course, will be looking for new and creative ways to enhance
the journal. Please feel free to e-mail him with your ideas and suggestions as
he develops his editorial team. His e-mail address is: mfurlong@education.

During my term as editor, scholars from throughout the world have
stimulated me with their innovative research and creative ideas about
violence in schools. In the years ahead we will need the continuing contri-
butions of thoughtful and skillful researchers to fill the pages of this journal.
I look forward to what the future holds for the Journal of School Violence.
Immediately prior to my writing this editorial, I read the CNN account
of a school shooting in Finland. We have many challenges ahead!
