handle is hein.journals/warcrim5 and id is 1 raw text is: War Crimes, Genocide & Crimes against Humanity
Volume 5 (2011): 1-2
Editor's Notes
The broad mission of War Crimes, Genocide & Crimes
against Humanity allows us to publish scholarship from a
wide range of disciplines to meet a wide range of scholarly
objectives. Volume 5 is a noteworthy and exciting example
of that broad mission. Two articles in this issue present
primary source material on the Holocaust and the
Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime
of Genocide, respectively. Michael Grodin, Eva Mozes Kor,
and Susan Benedict present the transcript of a 1985 tribunal-
like event that gathered oral histories from survivors of Josef
Mengele's horrific experiments at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Eugene Taylor and Abraham Krikorian provide a transcript
of a 1949 CBS broadcast on the Genocide Convention that
includes Raphael Lemkin among the discussants. Although
such material is rare in a journal whose primary focus is on
socio-legal analysis, our board saw these articles as a
tremendous publishing opportunity.
Also in this issue, Roger Roots examines how terrorist
attacks strengthen anti-terror bureaucracies and Sharon
Melzer reviews Adam Lankford's book Human Killing
Machines: Systematic Indoctrination in Iran, Nazi Germany,
Al Qaeda, and Abu Ghraib. Dr. Melzer's piece is the first
book review we have published. We hope we will have
space for many more and, in fact, have one review
symposium in the works for an upcoming issue.
