Volume 3 (2009): 1-2
Editor's Notes
With Volume 3, War Crimes, Genocide & Crimes against
Humanity returns to publication. We appreciate the patience
of our readers and authors. The hiatus was taken to
reevaluate our management practices and produce an even
more valuable journal. Our mission and goals have not
changed.'
It is appropriate that we reemerge with the work of four
emerging scholars. Rebecca Glazier reinterprets the tenets of
just war theory in order to apply them to genocide,
attempting to provide practical guidance for when
intervention is justified or required. Eric Michael Liddick
and John Gagnon, IL, explore the role the ICC might have
played to achieve peace in Sri Lanka. Although the situation
in Sri Lanka changed while the paper awaited publication,
their insights are applicable to a range of civil conflicts
within nations. And given the history of Sri Lanka over the
last thirty years, it is too early to consider that conflict
resolved. Laura L. Finley presents a cultural analysis of the
U.S. which places the origins of recent war crimes into
historical context and provides a warning that if the nation
wishes to avoid such incidents in the future, it must confront
its past.
1 Our mission and goals are described in the Volume 1 editorial, available (as are
all articles we publish) on our web site at http://www.war-crimes.org.
