                                    EDITORS' NOTE

It is with great pleasure and a sense of occasion that we welcome readers to the inaugural
volume and issue of Transnational Criminal Law Review. The plan to found this publication
was formulated a decade ago in discussions between Neil Boister, Rob Currie and Advisory
Board member Tom Obokata. It was based on the simple premise that, while there were both
journals dedicated to international criminal law stricto sensu and those which might publish
material concerning crime and international law, it would be useful to have a law journal
dedicated to the emerging and increasingly important discipline of transnational criminal law.1
The founding editors now number the undersigned six and are supported by a prestigious and
generous Advisory Board.2 We are also grateful to the Leddy Library at the University of
Windsor, which provides our open-access platform, and to the University of Canterbury for
financial support towards copy-editing.
It is our hope that this fully peer-reviewed and open-access journal will become the
primary platform for literature in this field. In particular, we are determined to escape the
constraints of North American/Euro-centrism and are committed to publishing as fully global
a range of material as possible. It is this goal that motivated us to create a modestly innovative
feature: a regularly-occurring Regional Reports section that will contain brief notes on treaty
practice, cases, legislative updates and other relevant state practice. We are grateful to have the
assistance of a stalwart group of regional rapporteurs,3 though we continue to seek even broader
coverage.
The plan is for primary editorial duties to revolve among the Editors-in-Chief for each
volume. The current volume (Volume 1, issues 1 and 2) is being edited by Boister and Currie,
who decided to start things off with a thematic issue on a matter of foundational importance to
transnational criminal law: extradition. Our rough plan is to do one thematic or special topic
issue per year, as well as one of general interest, and we also foresee the possibility of special
issues arising from conferences on relevant topics. All of this may change as-we hope!-the
journal grows.
We hope you are as excited to read this work as we are to present it. Please feel free to
contact the editors with questions,4 and naturally we welcome submissions5 from all and sundry.
