1 Tilburg Foreign L. Rev. 1 (1991-1992)

Welcome to the Tilburg Foreign Law Review
The worldmap is changing continuously. Empires fall apart, new
entities are created and jurisdictions are shifted. Sometimes borders fade away,
in other cases they create a distance. Nevertheless the international contacts are
increasing continuously. Trade across the borders has reached proportions
unthinkable in the past. Unknown cultures are more accessible than ever
before. Especially young people travel abroad to broaden their outlooks.
These developments are of great interest to the Jurisprudence. More
often it is necessary to study foreign law, if possible in a comparative perspec-
tive. Foreign law systems are getting more important. In present days a lawyer
cannot suffice with knowledge of the law of his own country.
In this setting the publication of a new Dutch journal about foreign law
is of great importance. It offers the possibility to be faster informed about
developments in other countries. Particular foreign legislation and jurispru-
dence can open windows who would otherwise stay closed in the interior.
The Law Faculty of the Tilburg University welcomes the new journal.
For that is more reason, considering the fact that the initiative for this law
review was taken by two students of our faculty, Anton van de Plas en
Willem-Jan van der Wolf. As editors they carry the responsibility.
I wish this law review lots of success. And I hope that in the future
many of our friends will ask the same question as our Dutch friends: what's
new in Tilburg?

Dean and Professor of law
