MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

In addition to conducting its vital accreditation of law schools
function, the Section this past year activated and expanded its
work in other areas. Committee Chairmen met with the Council in
October, 1975 to discuss their plans for the year. Although re-
grettably budgetary restrictions prevented most Committees from
having formal meetings, important progress was made through cor-
respondence and telephone conversations. In addition, a stimulating
and productive workshop for law school inspectors was held in
December in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Associa-
tion of American Law Schools. The Section also sponsored a
workshop for deans of accredited law schools at the ABA Midyear
Meeting. Some of the Committee activities were as follows:
Archives. Past Section Chairman Thomas H. Adams devoted
many hours at the American Bar Center reviewing the old
Section files, most of which had been stored in cardboard
boxes. He culled the files, categorized them by schools,
and began the process of shelving the important documents
by school on the shelves in the Cromwell Library. It is
anticipated the project will be completed during the coming
year.
Accreditation. In August, the House of Delegates granted
full approval to Pepperdine University School of Law, and
provisional approval to the Delaware Law School and Nova
University Center for the Study of Law. There now are 164
ABA approved law schools, 13 of which are provisionally
approved; 163 offer the J.D. degree program; the other
approved school is the U. S. Judge Advocate General's
School, which offers a graduate LL.M. degree program only.
Four applications for provisional approval are pending.
Fully approved law schools are reinspected routinely every
seven years; 29 such inspections were conducted this past
year. Provisionally approved schools are reinspected
annually, and all 13 schools were reinspected during the
year. In addition, each of the four schools seeking ABA
