Legal Writing

Institute Elects New

Board of Directors
  The following eight candidates were
recently elected to fill positions on the
Board of Directors for the Legal
Writing Institute:
      Susan Brody-John Marshall
      Law School
      Anne Enquist-University of
      Puget Sound Law School
      Richard Neumann-Hofstra
      University Law School
      Laurel Oates-University of
      Puget Sound Law School
      Diana Pratt-Wayne State
      University Law School.
      Chris Rideout-University of
      Puget Sound Law School
      Marjorie Rombauer-University
      of Washington Law School
      Helene Shapo-Northwestern
      University Law School
  These people will serve four-year
terms beginning January 1, 1991.
The seven other board members will
continue to serve their terms, which
end on December 31, 1992.


  In all, thirty-three candidates from
thirty different law schools and
universities were nominated. One
hundred and eighteen members of the
Institute voted in the election.


A Note
From The Chair
   During last July's conference, the
Board of Directors had its third
meeting. Two features of that meeting
stand out for me and characterize the
current state of the Institute. The first
is the impressive amount of
volunteerism in this Institute. Each
time a report was given, it reflected the
hard work of some Institute member
who had volunteered time, effort, and
in some cases money. The Board
sends its thanks to all of these people.
The second feature of the meeting was
its length (over three hours on a
gorgeous summer night). We had a
very full agenda, a sign, I think, that
the Institute is finding various ways to
support legal writing and those who
teach it.
   The Board discussed a number of
activities that reach, or will reach,
most of the Institute's members. The
first is this newsletter. The newsletter
is our primary means of staying in
touch with one another; if you have
