Summer Conference set for Ann Arbor

   The Legal Writing Institute will
hold its fourth summer conference
July 27, 28, and 29, 1990, at the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
Michigan.
   Like past conferences, next
summer's conference will offer a
variety of presentations and work-
shops, thus accommodating both
newcomers to the teaching of legal
writing and those who are experi-
enced teachers or administrators.
Newcomers will benefit from the
presentations and workshops that
focus on the teaching of legal writing.
As in the past, these will include
how to design effective writing
assignments, how to critique and
evaluate student work, and how to
teach more effectively. The program
will also contain sessions on
teaching legal drafting. More experi-
enced teachers of legal writing and
those who administrate legal writing
programs will also find helpful pres-
entations. Among the topics expected
to be covered are composition theory,
program design, training legal
writing faculty, and the politics of
teaching legal writing. As in the past,
next summer's conference will offer
both plenary sessions and smaller

workshops and panels. Although
many of the smaller presentations
will be offered concurrently, several
will be repeated so that participants
can attend the sessions that most
interest them.
   Attending the conference should
be affordable. Reasonably-priced
housing will be available in the dorns
at the University of Michigan, and
most meals will be included in the
conference fee. The arrangements
are being made by Diana Pratt, the
Director of Legal Writing at Wayne
State College of Law. Information
about conference registration will be
mailed after the turn of the year.

    Program Solicitations
    The Program Committee for next
summer's conference is currently
soliciting suggestions for keynote
and featured speakers. Suggestions
should be sent to the Program Com-
mittee, c/o Legal Writing Institute,
950 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma,
Washington 98402. Proposals for
workshops, panels, and presenta-
tions will be solicited later this fall.
