I. INTRODUCTION
Humans have been described as lay scientists,' methodically
searching for causal links to comprehend the connection between
the events they experience and the influence others may exert
over those events. For example, a car accident occurs in snowy
conditions and we attribute the consequences of that accident to
the driver's poor driving skills. The theory that has developed for
explaining how we interpret such a connection is known as the
attribution process. According to this theory, our understanding
of others develops from our ability to interact with them and to
attribute to them the consequences of an event.2 As a result, in-
