T HE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE held its annual meeting last Septem-
ber at the American Political Science Association convention in Washing-
ton, DC. We had, as Captain Reynaud says, twice the usual number of
changes.
Patrick Riley comes this year to the end of his six-year service. He has
been an invaluable member of the committee, generous of his time and
learning, precise and fused in his intelligence. Alan Houston, George Kateb,
and I extend him thanks on behalf of the entire committee.
As announced in the May issue, J. Peter Euben, of the University of
California, Santa Cruz, has agreed to take over the position of Book
Review Editor. The Executive Committee unanimously asked Nancy
Rosenblum to fill the unexpired five years of Peter's term. The Committee
also agreed that if Peter should at any point step down from his new post he
would return to the Executive Committee for the remainder of his original
term.
It was somewhat simpler to fill the new position. I am pleased to announce
that J. Donald Moon of Wesleyan University has agreed to assume the empty
spot. Don is author most recently of the forthcoming Constructing Com-
munity: Moral Pluralism and Tragic Conflicts as well as of many articles
in books and journals. He has served ably for some time as the coordinator
of the Conference for the Study of Political Thought. I am delighted he is
joining us.
Two political science graduate students work with Alan and myself on the
journal. I hope they find our interactions as interesting as I do. Each year one
rotates off and is replaced. This year John Hughes leaves his position. Many
thanks to him for a job very well done. I am pleased to welcome Joseph Lima
as the new Editorial Assistant. He arrives at UCSD from the New School for
Social Research with a strong background in political theory and an interest
especially in ordinary language philosophy.
Alan Houston is this year in residence at the Center for the Study of Human
Values in Princeton. I miss his counsel. I urge you not to bother him there
with journal matters.
