handle is hein.journals/ptxa12 and id is 1 raw text is: FROM THE EDITORS

The journal expresses its sadness on the occasion of the death of a
distinguished member of its Editorial Board, Raymond Aron. We
plan to include a discussion of Aron's contribution to political
theory in a forthcoming issue.
E JOIN THE EDITORIAL BOARD and readers of
Political Theory in expressing our gratitude and appreciation to
Benjamin Barber. During his ten-year stewardship Political Theory has
become one of the most prominent journals of political reflection in the
English-speaking world, regularly drawing essays from leading theorists-
in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States and
reaching an audience that extends to Europe and beyond. All political
theorists are indebted to Barber for nurturing this forum. We acknow-
ledge gratefully, too, the superb work of Thomas Horne, who served as
Managing Editor during this period of development and consolidation.
The incoming editors owe a further debt to Ben Barber for the
invaluable assistance he has given us in establishing the new office at the
University of Massachusetts.
We are delighted to welcome Ben Barber, Hanna Pitkin, and Charles
Taylor as new members of the Editorial Board, elected by the Executive
Editorial Committee at its fall meeting. Hanna Pitkin has agreed as well
to serve on the Executive Editorial Committee. We are also pleased to
announce the appointment of Jane Bennett, a graduate student
completing her dissertation in political theory, as Assistant to the
Editor. Finally, we wish to thank the University of Massachusetts for
providing the journal with an office and with administrative support,
and especially for authorizing the Department of Political Science to
search for a new assistant professor in political theory to serve as
managing editor of the journal.
Political Theory will continue its tradition of hospitality to a variety
of theories and perspectives. Such diversity encourages each of us to
reach beyond the small circles in which we tend to move. The journal
remains sympathetic to essays that address themselves to the permanent
and recurrent features of politics. We especially welcome essays that
