FROM THE EDITOR

\MITH THIS ISSUE, we welcome our two new editorial appren-
tices-Eric Herlan of Columbia and Richard Battistoni of Rutgers-to
the POLITICAL THEORY community. The experiment begun two
years ago with apprentices has been a success. We have profited much
from the assistance of these hard-working graduate students.
Readers will also note that against all the recessionary tendencies of
the times, this issue of POLITICAL THEORY has been increased in
size, a change which will be permanent. The economy falters, economic
indicators plunge, but with the support of loyal readers and contributors
    POLITICAL THEORY continues to grow.

                                             -Benjamin R. Barber
