Welcome to volume 14 of Police Quarterly (PQ). Consistent with past practice of
writing an editorial for each new volume, here again I remind potential authors of the
journal's editorial policy and present the latest journal statistics. Before I do that,
however, let me share some great news.

Thomson Reuters Indexing
I am pleased to report that PQ has been selected for coverage in Thomson Reuters
products and services. Beginning with the current issue, the journal will be indexed and
abstracted in the following:

   *  Social Sciences Citation Index®
   * Journal Citation Reports/Social Sciences Edition
   * Current Contents®/Social and Behavioral Sciences

Journals are selected based on article publication standards, editorial content, inter-
national diversity of research and authorship, and citation data. According to Thomson
Reuters, only 10 to 12% of journals evaluated for inclusion in their databases are
selected (For more details on the journal selection process, see http://thomsonreuters
.com/productsservices/science/free/essays/joumal selectionprocess). This is a testament
to the quality of the work published in PQ, which of course begins with our authors.
The first official PQ rating will be due out in 2 years. In the meantime, please continue
to submit your best research to the journal and cite PQ articles in your own work.

Editorial Policies
For work to get published in PQ, it must satisfy the following requirements:

   1. Scholarship must be original and of clear interest to both the scholarly and
practitioner communities. The journal prefers empirical work that tests one
or more specific research questions, but high-quality legal studies and policy
analyses will also be considered. Except in rare circumstances, argumentative
essays and purely descriptive research will not be published.
   2. PQ has a rather strong desk rejection policy. The editor will not seek external
reviews of articles that have a low chance of acceptance and/or are inconsistent
      with the journal's focus.
