T   HE  last five titles (XXVII[-XXXL[) of the Third, and
     most of the Sixth, Parlida treat of subjects which the
     Institutes of Justinian comprehend in Book If and the
first part of Book III, to wit property and its transinis-
sion. The  separation above indicated is not an improv-
ement  and  the  Spanish jurists would have done better
had  they followed the arrangement, as closely as they
did the contents, of their Roman models. Beginning with
the  definition of ownership or dominion (sellorio) Title
XXVIII  of the Third Parlida proceeds, in the conventional
Roman  way,  to a classification of property and the modes
of its' acquisitioa. Title XXIX treats of prescriptioa and
reproduces the  Justinian periods of three years for im-
mnovables and  ten years for movables, or twenty if the
adverse claimant is absent. Title XXX  contains a brief
treatment of possession and the modes of acquiring and
losing it while Title XXXI is devoted to servitudes (ser-
ridumbres)l and here  again we  find a condensed para-
phrase  of the Institutes. Of the servittes risticas, iter
reappears as senda, actus as carrera, via under the same
