A Note from the Editor

With this issue, the journal begins its fortieth volume. As has been the
case throughout its history, much of the work of reviewing and editing
submissions is done by the Associate Editors. With the number of sub-
missions at an all-time high, and with the need to turn papers around
quickly in light of our production deadlines, this group has been working
harder than ever. Let me take this opportunity to thank the Associate
Editors for their ongoing efforts.
Professor Barbara Fried has stepped down as Review Editor after
seven years of service. I am very grateful to her for her conscien-
tious work on behalf of the journal, and for successfully guiding a
number of review essays to publication. I am delighted to announce
that Professor Harry Brighouse (Wisconsin-Madison) has begun work
as her successor.
The data below provide an overview of last year's record of accep-
tances and turnaround time. The number of acceptances refers to deci-
sions reached during the twelve-month period from July 1, 2010, to June
30, 2011. The data on turnaround time cover the same period and report
the time elapsed between the journal's receipt of a submission and
the return of a decision to the author. In the case of conditionally
accepted papers, we exclude the period when the paper is with the
author for final revisions.
