Gentlemen:-
The recent demonstrations of Oxygen Powder at the City Quarry
consisted of the application of a total charge of 33 ounces, by electric
fuse fire, to four holes in trap rock ledge,. as follows:-
Hole No. 1, 8J feet deep, - 1J sticks
Hole No. 2, 51 feet deep, - 1 sticks
Hole No. 3, 7 feet deep, - 1J sticks
Hole No. 4, 6 feet deep, - 1J sticks
The diameter of the sticks was one inch, and the weight six oi1mces'
The ignition resulted in their displacement of about 205 cubic feet bt
rock, or rather better than the effect of 2J times the quantity of 60 per
cent, dynamite. The cleavage Was perfect to bottom of hole., there
was a total absence of smoke and concussion, and the report could hardly
be heard a hundred feet away. Apart from its economic features, the
Oxygen Powder appears to possess peculiar advantages for City use.
Yours truly,
Signed, BOARD OF PUBLIC WOaKS.
