handle is hein.journals/oxuclwj10 and id is 1 raw text is: PREFACE

We are delighted to introduce to our readers the first issue of the OUCLJ's tenth
volume, 10.1. Since its inception, the OUCLJ has been committed to the highest
academic standards and aimed at publishing first-class research with the aim of
recording and analysing the ever-changing face of Commonwealth law. In keep-
ing this commitment, the OUCLJ has published articles on different topics of
interest to Commonwealth readers, written by prominent figures from across the
Commonwealth, including academics, judges and practitioners. Marking our
tenth anniversary, this Issue contains articles by Justice JD Heydon of the High
Court of Australia on The Origins of the Indian Evidence Act, Justine Pila and Ben
Mcfarlane of Oxford University on An Australian Copyright Revolution and its Relevance
for UK Jurisprudence: IceTV in the light of Infopaq v Danske and The Protection of Pre-
Contractual Reliance: A Way Forward? (respectively), and Jeffrey Berryman of the
University of Windsor (Ontario) and the University of Auckland (NZ) on The Law
Of Remedies: A Prospectus For Teaching And Scholarship; it also includes a short note by
Eddy D Ventose of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus,
Barbados on Testerday's Heresy, Today's Orthodoxy: Exemplay Damages for Breach of
Contract in the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Notwithstanding the old wisdom 'Let another praise thee, and not thy own mouth:
a stranger, and not thy own lips' (Book of Proverbs 27:2), we might be forgiven on
our tenth anniversary for saying that the OUCLJ has become a well established
law journal. It has not only attracted outstanding authors but also excellent edi-
tors. Most of them come from commonwealth countries, such as Australia,
Canada, Hong Kong, India, and South Africa. Others have come from Israel and
Palestine which, though not part of the Commonwealth, have a common law his-
tory. Editors have also come from civil law countries, such as Argentina, Belgium,
Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, and Spain. They have likewise left their stamp on
the editorial work of the OUCLJ and through their work immensely enriched and
contributed to the quality and diversity of the Journal.
On this happy occasion, the OUCLJ would like to thank all those who took part
in making the OUCLJ what it has become, including the authors who have pub-
lished with us, the editors who worked hard to select the best submissions and edit
them according to the highest standards, the Law Faculty at Oxford University for
its academic liaison and generous financial support, and last but not least, Hart
Publishing for their generous support and logistic assistance in publishing and pro-
moting the Journal.
