OCTOBER, 1912.

No. I.

~NOTHER Session is upon us, and now
Iis the time for good resolutions.
Last year was not an exceptionally
brilliant year, taken all round, so
let us hope we shall shine with a greater lunin-
ance this. Reviewing the year as far as the
Society is concerned, however, we have some
cause for self-congratulation. The Mock Trial
was undoubtedly a success-one of the best,
some are pleased to say-and it certainly did
not cost as much as many another has done.
The Dinner and Dance were two very enjoyable
functions as well, and for particulars of financial
success as to these the reader is referred to the
Treasurer's account. It does seem a pity that
the Dance is not more of a financial asset.
.We have so many expenses attached to the
Society and this function is the only one in
which we might-well, balance the loss on,
say, expeditions to various towns as the guests
of local Law Students' Societies. Can't some-
thing be done?
The winner of the Speaking Competition for
the Session is to be congratulated on his high
percentage, and it is a source of pleasure to see
that his con/ryre, Mr. Hislop, is runner-up
for the coveted position. On the whole, the
speaking has been good, but it is an indisputable
fact that there is a very limited number of
good impromptu speakers, and after all this
is the real test.

As far as Examinations are concerned we have
done as well as usual, and the list of Ordinary
Members has had to be thoroughly revised I
May these erstwhile students still continue
to take an active interest in the society I
One other point we should like to make,
and it is not a new one. The attendance at
meetings is not as good as it ought to be.
Having in mind that members are in town and
on the spot, so to speak, it seems deplorable
that they cannot at least once a fortnight delay
plodding their weary way for the matter of an
hour or so. The Law Notes prizes, which we
once upon a time annexed with singular
regularity, necessitate the attendance of a good
number-to quicken your interest we leave you
to find out-and if this number is not present-
why, bang goes the opportunity.
Another thing-the Dance will be held
on approximately the same date as last year,
viz., December 15th. Nota bene.
The Solicitors' Examinations for 1913 are as
follows :-

(January 13th & 14th
Monday and April 7th & 8th
Tuesday, June 16th & 17th
'November 3rd & 4th

Wednesday
and
Thursday,

January 15th & i6th
April 9th & Ioth
June 18th & 19th
November 5th & 6th

The
Final.

Inter-
mediate.
