I am both very honoured and pleased to introduce
myself to the readership of Medicine Science and the
Law as the new Editor in Chief, in this, our first edi-
tion of 2016. My first and equally pleasant task is to
thank the outgoing team, in particular Professor Peter
Vanezis OBE, and the Assistant Editor Adam
Konstanciak for their efforts and endeavours over
the years of their stewardship of the Journal. This
edition naturally owes much to that legacy.
This Journal is your Journal, and I welcome sug-
gestions and submissions from the readership for
topics and themes that you would wish to see explored
in future editions.
I hope to encourage greater participation by pro-
fessionals in training, in all three disciplines. Sections
for professional trainees and students are planned for
future editions. I would particularly welcome the
development of interdisciplinary commentaries, in
respect of the papers we publish; and I hope that
this, too, will become a regular feature.

We are always seeking the valued contribution of
speciality editors; and I intend to recruit several visit-
ing Speciality Editors to augment the excellent work
already undertaken by the existing team.
2016 will be, in many senses, a crucial year for
forensic sciences in the UK. There can be no doubt
that the twin effects of ongoing judicial reform and
financial austerity will prove a significant challenge to
the delivery of ethical, efficient and independent ser-
vices to the courts and all of their users.
This Journal, your Journal, will do its utmost to
play its part in maintaining the highest standards of
scientific enquiry and debate, within an equally ethical
framework.
I look forward, with great expectation, to being a
part of that endeavour.

                                    Prof Bob Peckitt
                                    December 2015
