                        EDITORIAL

                        SIR THOMAS LUND
AT the second Scientific General Meeting of the British Academy of
Forensic Sciences, Sir Thomas Lund, C.B.E., was elected President
of the Academy for the ensuing year.
Sir Thomas Lund, a founder member of the Academy, is Secre-
tary of The Law Society, a post of considerable influence in the
legal world which he has occupied with distinction since 1939,
when he was appointed at the early age of thirty-three. After
qualifying as a solicitor with honours in 1929, he joined the staff
of The Law Society in 1930 and has since acquired an international
reputation; a member of the British Council and of the British In-
stitute of International and Comparative Law, he became Treasurer
of the International Bar Association in 1950 and of the International
Legal Aid Association in i960. His position in the latter Associa-
tion was particularly suitable as he was the architect of the Legal
Aid and Advice Scheme now in operation in this country. His
appointment as President of the Academy is a sign of the con-
siderable importance attached by the legal profession to the work
of the Academy.
                       THE SECOND YEAR
The popularity of this specialised journal all over the world (even
behind the Iron Curtain) is a clear indication that its appearance
was welcome and necessary. Further proof lies in the quantity
of excellent material submitted from many professions and sources
for publication in its pages. A year's experience has shown what
our readers require and in order to enable us to meet these require-
ments without passing on the increasing cost of publication certain
changes, mainly in style, have been introduced.
